Teamfoul members MM and Sani bring you their look at what was going on in the NBA previous night. This will be a daily feature here at Teamfoul, unless one (or both) of us is busy. Or lazy. Here’s the Daily Nickel for games played on January 18th:

MM

5. Miami won … almost

If you get 20-points in third quarter from your star player and lead by 9 going into the fourth 99,99% of the times you win. That 0,01% belongs to the Heat now.

4. No Hibachi, no problem.

Or was it because Wizards played the Knicks and wanted to get their revenge?

3. Blowout night

7 of 10 games finished with double-digit difference between first team and runner up team. No wonder it felt sleepy.

2. Baron Davis having his “MJ moment”

After the 40-points effort BD said: “I felt like Jordan out there”. We assume he meant Michael not Eddie or Farmar, but still it is a bit confusing because to earn feeling close to Jordan you have to have higher scoring game than pathetic 40 points.

1. Artest sending kisses to Detroit crowd

Artest has paid his price for his “Heat of the moment” (Miami has nothing to do with it). Now it was time for Detroit crowd to get some taste what it feels to be mocked. To be honest to level it out Artest can kiss and kill in Detroit for next 666 years if he bothers to play basketball for so long that is.

5. Send Diddy to Big Eazy, please!

Baron Davis continues to play at an MVP level, and still, he’s no better than eighth in the Western Conference All-Star voting (just ahead of Jason Terry), so unless NBA coaches recognize that he truly is one of the best guards in the league, their talent evaluation is no better than Zeke’s judgement.

4. Me? A Knick? But why?

Suns PG Leandro Barbosa survived a scare last night when a prank caller to a hotel he was in let him know that he was traded to the New York Knicks. I think this says more about the Knicks than any loss or bad trade ever will. The advice LB got from his assistant coach Dan D’Antoni, NEXT TIME USE A FALSE NAME!

3. The streak is gone…

The three game winning streak is over, after the NYK lost to the Washington Wizards. Yeah, i know it’s not much, but Knicks wins and, let’s say Celtics wins are something like dog years and human years. Google says that’s 7 to 1, so unless C’s win 21 games in a row, i’m not impressed.

2. Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me…

RonRon visiting Detroit will always be more than a game, more than 3 years after the biggest NBA brawl in history, Artest’s Kings managed to beat Central Division leading Pistons, and the man himself kept blowing kisses to the crowd he once threw punches at. So sweet.

1. “We thought that was the turning point, but it wasn’t.”

Say no more Dwyane. Not even a heroic game and a team-record 20 point third quarter by Wade was enough to end what is now a 12-game losing streak. Former Heat forward, and a member of the expansion Heat team, Grant Long said “People might say this team would steamroll us, but I don’t think so”. I don’t think a bunch of 40-50 year olds could beat this Heat team, they’re not THAT bad. Or he means when they were in their prime? Ok, that makes more sense.
